A TV documentary called The King Who Invented Ballet about the making of The King Dances will be shown on Sunday 13 September, 8:00pm on BBC Four followed by the television world premiere of The King Dances.
Filmed over the last year, The King Who Invented Ballet is a 60 minute documentary which charts how ballet developed during the reign of Louis XIV (also known as the Sun King). It also follows David Bintley’s creation of The King Dances, a brand new one-act ballet for Birmingham Royal Ballet with original music by Stephen Montague which received its world premiere at Birmingham Hippodrome in June. The King Dances receives its television world premiere at 9.00pm on BBC FOUR, directly following the documentary.
